Siren

Lately I’ve been studying photography again. After so many years of experimenting with commercial, editorial, fashion, beauty photography and more, it’s ultimately the fine art work I’m drawn to. It’s portraiture, natural expression, the female form, shapes, earth’s elements, and movement. These timeless themes continue to intrigue me and shape my artistic vision.

Fine art is the purest sense of art. Fine art is created to simply exist.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Krista and I drove to a foggy corner of San Francisco. We walked down the unassuming steps to the most gorgeous cove and experimented with light, movement, and the breeze. The dark rocky cliffs and the incoming fog set the mood as I shot to my heart’s content.

I love when my models get to play characters. For an hour or so, Krista channeled a siren on the rocks, longingly looking out at the water. We kept the styling simple, as I wanted to focus on shapes and shadows and expression more than anything else.

We spent our time in a semi secluded pocket of this magnificent cove, and no matter which direction we turned, the beach delivered a jaw-droppingly beautiful backdrop. Herb Ritts vibes all around, and I couldn’t be happier.

I loved the grittiness of sand on raw skin, the gracefulness of the female form contrasted against rugged rocky cliffs, and the juxtaposition of human and nature. I choose to photograph women because there is so much depth in the female gaze, strength in our vulnerability, and power in our own narrative. I believe in liberation from societal perfection and unretouched photos that tell a story.

Thank you, Krista, for literally being the best sport during this entire shoot as the fog started to set in and the breeze picked up. Thank you for making my visions come alive!
